Pandemic Update
The SARS-CoV-2 virus continues to cause outbreaks of infection and remains highly contagious. Thankfully, as a result of widespread population immunity and a variety of antiviral therapies, overall mortality and hospitalization rates are much lower than they were in earlier stages of the pandemic.
However, COVID-19 remains a serious illness.
6.8 million people have died world-wide since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic— including 1.2 million Americans and 2,500 North Dakotans. The death toll from COVID-19 dwarfs any previous disease or pandemic our nation has faced— more than the 1918 influenza (650,000) or HIV/AIDS (700,000).
From time to time, history offers up a global challenge which requires meaningful, selfless participation by each of us.
COVID-19 has been ours.
Stay up to date on vaccinations. Follow the advice of trusted medical professionals. Keep yourself and your neighbors safe.
